Advantages of ultrasonic welding of MATER-B
MATER-B is an innovative biodegradable and compostable bioplastic made by using starches, cellulose, vegetable oils and once combined, it is used to produce highly biodegradable products.
SONIC ITALIA has developed an application which allows for simultaneous cutting and welding two layers of MATER-B between 11-15 microns at a speed up to 60-90 m/minute and that is integrated into the production lines for biodegradable bags.
The main advantage of using ultrasonic welding for MATER-B is visible to the naked eye. The ultrasonic cut does not create molten material, thus avoiding the gondola effect during the rewinding phase. Furthermore, it is much more energy-efficient than traditional cutting and welding systems as it is a “cold system” technology that is immediately ready for use.
The peak power of the generator (expressed in W) is minimal because this application absorbs less than 10% of the power and only for the few seconds when it is activated.
